Notes

This manuscript in the hand of  the arranger, Max Puttmann, served as the printer's copy for the first edition (PF2h1), and the plate numbers for that score and the orchestral parts (7785, 7786) have been added to fol. 1r in pencil. The manuscript is not dated, and the Hofmeister Monatsbericht includes no entry for the first edition, but the plate number suggests that it was part of a batch of newly originated scores for the Mahler songs prepared in late 1916 and first issued in the first half of 1917.
