Fascicle structure

This description reflects the manuscript structure when viewed in 1989. By 2007 all the gatherings making up the first movement (fol. 2–37) had been moved so that they preceded fol. 1. The ink offset on 1v does indeed correspond to the smudged tempo marking on 38r indicating that the leaf originally formed the wrapper for movement II only. However, the front wrapper bears gutter creases consistent with its having also enclosed the first movement, and, unlike its conjugate leaf, the rear wrapper (fol. 44), all the leaves that make up Blumine (fol. 38–43) and fol. 2–6, it has NOT been folded vertically, evidence that at some later (though early) stage it was functioning as the wrapper for the first and second movements.

Bar numbers have been added for fol. 1r-13r to clarify the make up of the initial gathering.

From this page, all page numbers have been revised by scratching out numbers where necessary and writing in the replacement numbers in pencil.
