		This diagram seeks to
provide a broad graphical outline of the way in which the Symphony was
assembled over a period of six years - it does not follow all the
conventions adopted for stemmatic diagrams elsewhere on this site, and
does not seek to elucidate the stemmatic relations between the sources
		The diagram includes some
(but by no means all) of the lost manuscript sources in order to clarify
the process of accumulation and composition.

The labels at the top of the image use, where possible, the
movement designations or numbers employed by Mahler at the orchestral
draft stage: the diagram seeks to reflect the change in overall
order of movements probably made at some time in 1894.
